Poor sheep - Earm skiep

The initial ideas did change every week, every day, every hour...Some times I was lying in my bed, couldnot sleep, was thinking of my work and had really brilliant ideas. The next morning they were not that brilliant any more...Some times I suddenly knew 'I have to make it this way'...and changed my plans. The process took the time that it needed. The last week I suddenly knew how to make the middle part.
Now my triptych is finished. I cannot change anything anymore. I have delivered it to the museum, Het Kruithuis, in 's Hertogenbosch. It was a 2,5 hours drive. I had a stomach ache while driving to 's Hertogenbosch and a headache driving back home. I had given my baby in other's hands. Ouch!

'Poor sheep':
I'm living in the middle of an area where a lot of sheep are populating the fields. Every spring I welcome the newborn lambs in the meadows around my place. I love to see them enjoying life, to jump and run and play around. It's the nicest time of the year. But, while I look at the lambs, I can already 'hear' the ewes crying for their babies when they have been separated from their mothers later in the summer. It is the circle of life of a sheep. But...the cries of the ewes have marked my life...

This summer I bought some beautiful Spelsau fleeces in Denmark. I was in shock when I had to pay them: the shippingcosts were really very high!

But...after receiving the fleeces I was even more in shock...What a beauties! This particular one I HAD to felt inmediatly. It just couldnot wait.

I felted it as a whole fleece, but also using merinowool and silk chiffon fabric. The result is a lovely carpet. Even my cat Boris likes it very much!

Afgelopen zomer heb ik een aantal prachtige Spelsau vachten gekocht in Denemarken. Ik schrok enorm van de hoge verzendkosten, maar ik was nog meer in shock toen ik de vachten uitpakte: wat een schoonheden!!!

Deze roodbruine vacht vroeg erom gelijk gevilt te worden. Ik heb hem in zijn geheel gevilt, waarbij ik een rand van merinowol en zijden chiffon heb gevilt.

Het resultaat mag er wezen: het is een schitterend kleed geworden. Zelfs poes Boris is dol op het kleed!

Just some more to break away.
I find it always difficult to break with newly learned felting methods. My head is filled with new expressions and ways. I want to try again and again. I try to find my own way using the learned technique.
After each workshop I've followed it's the same old song. Especially when the feltteacher was able to impress me very much with her creativity, as was in the case of the workshop by Vilte Kazlauskaite.
So I made me some last of my 'forms' using the Vilte-technique.
Now my head will be clear enough to rediscover the path I was going on. My own felting path...

Nog een paar dan.
Ik vind het altijd moeilijk om me los te maken van een net nieuw geleerde vilt methode. Mijn hoofd is dan nog zo gevuld met nieuwe manieren en uitingen. Ik wil het steeds opnieuw uitproberen. Zoekend naar mijn eigen manier, gebruikmakend van de nieuwe techniek.
Na elke workshop die ik heb gevolgd is het hetzelfde liedje. Helemaal wanneer de juf indruk op me heeft gemaakt met haar creativiteit, zoals het geval was bij Vilte Kazlauskaite.
Dus nu heb ik mijn laatste 'vormen' gemaakt op de Vilte-manier.
Nu is mijn hoofd weer leeg genoeg om mijn eigen vilt-weg te vervolgen. Mijn eigen viltmanieren...

Spring in my studio!
For the 'Keunstrûte Littenseradiel' I wanted to make something BIG and colorful. So I felted the flowers I miss in my 'garden' (My garden is still a mess!). Aren't they lovely?

Lente in mijn atelier!
Voor de 'Keunstrûte Littenseradiel' wilde ik iets maken met veel kleur, ook moest het GROOT zijn. Ik viltte bloemen: blauwe druifjes (nou ja, een soort van...). In mijn rommeltuin ontbreken ze helaas nog steeds.

It was very nice being teached by Vilte. She is a very relaxed and well felt-teacher! During the second course I tried to join the course as much as I could. Ofcourse I had to take care of the participants of the workshop and Vilte as well. It comes with organizing activities. But, I succeeded. The first day I felted my samples. And the second day of the course I started with laying my own dress. I had been spinning silk tops and dying my wool and fabrics in the evenings before, so I was able to use lots of beautiful materials. I did also discover a heritage of my aunt: 2 pieces of lace with little beads and paillettes embroidered. It was lovely, I would like to use them also.
The third and last day of the course I finished the laying of the wool, silk and fabrics and started to felt. All went very well. Only...suddenly something happened. There was a black gunk coming under my hands...What was happening?...After the first moments of panic my brains started thinking again and I found out that the paillettes were gone! They were melted completely! That had caused the black gunk!Fortunately the little beads were still there. I washed the dress carefully. And I was very happy to see that there was no other damage. I didnot succeed finishing the dress that day. I finished the felting two days later, when Vilte was going back home again. I'm very happy with the results!

Het was heerlijk les te krijgen van Vilte. Zij is een ontspannen en goede lerares. De 2e workshop probeerde ik zo goed en zo kwaad mogelijk mee te doen aan de workshop. Ik moest, als organisator van de workshops, natuurlijk ook voor de deelneemsters en Vilte zelf zorgen. Dat hoort erbij. Maar het lukte me. De 1e dag heb ik mijn proeflappen gemaakt. De 2e dag startte ik met het
uitleggen van mijn eigen jurkje. Ik had de avonden ervoor tot in de late uurtjes zijde zitten spinnen en wol en zijde stoffen geverfd, dus ik kon beschikken over een schat aan materialen. Bovendien had ik een erfenisje van mijn tante gevonden: stukjes kant geborduurd met kleine glinsterkraaltjes en pailletten. Erg mooi, dat wilde ik ook gebruiken.
De derde en laatste dag van de workshop legde ik de laatse lagen wol, zijde en stoffen en startte met vilten. Het ging heel goed. Totdat..er iets raars gebeurde: Opeens kwam er een zwarte smurrie onder mijn handen vandaan. Wat gebeurde er...? Na het eerste paniekmoment, toen ik weer normaal kon denken, kwam ik er achter dat de pailletten compleet verdwenen waren! Ze waren gesmolten! Dat was de zwarte smurrie! Gelukkig hadden de kraaltjes het wel overleefd. Ik waste het jurkje voorzichtig uit. Ik was heel blij dat het verder geen schade had opgelopen. Het lukte me die dag niet het jurkje af te krijgen. Ik heb het 2 dagen later afgemaakt, toen Vilte weer naar huis was. Ik ben dolblij met het mooie resultaat!

During the 2nd course by Vilte Kazlauskaite in my studio (April 2011) I was allowed to work also. As far as I could in between arranging lunch, coffee, etc. After the 1st succesfull workshop I was full of inspiration and really wanted to go and felt by myself! In the flow of the course I had spun silk tops in the late hours and dyed silk fabric and wool in the dye pot. From Tatiana from Cyprus I had got eucalyptus leaves. I enrolled them in silk organza en tyed it with woollen dreads. I have put it in the dye pot together with silk tule, chiffon, silk tops and wool tops. And...Landscape dyes. I let it nearly cook for half an hour, then I had to go to sleep. It was already after 12 o-clock. I put the pot of the stove and the next morning I rinsed and centrifuged it all. The results were surprising! The eucalyptus had prevented some spots to be dyed and on other spots the eucalyptus had dyed with her marvellous colors. Together with the brownish Landscape dye it was beautiful! The colors for my dress were chosen: eucaluptus/brown and the grey and lime I had dyed before.

Tijdens de 2e cursus door Vilte Kazlauskaite in mijn atelier (april 2011) mocht ik zelf aan de slag. Voorzover het zou lukken tussen het organiseren van het eten en de koffie door...Na de 1e geslaagde workshop had ik natuurlijk ontzettend veel zin en inspiratie om zelf te gaan vilten. Helemaal in de ban van het gebeuren had ik 's avonds nog zijdevezel zitten spinnen en zijden stoffen en wol in de verfpan gegooid. Van Tatiana uit Cyprus had ik eucalyptus blad gekregen. Dit heb ik in organza gewikkeld en afgebonden met wollen draad. En dat in de pan samen met zijden tule, chiffon, zijdevezel en wol. Met ...landscape dyes! Half uur laten pruttelen, toen moest ik naar bed. Het was al na 12-en! De pan uitgezet en de volgende morgen de boel gespoeld en gecentrifugeerd. Het resultaat was verrassend! De eucalyptus had op sommige plekken verhinderd dat er verfstof kwam en op andere plekken haar verfstof afgegeven. Het kleurde schitterend met de bruinige landscape dye. Samen met de andere kleuren die ik ook 'even' tussendoor had gefabriekt was ik heel tevreden. Dit zou het worden voor mijn jurkje!
